By getitdone

January 2010 is here and we are full steam into winter now so the question on many people's minds, especially those of us who don't live in balmy Florida, is what can we expect for winter weather this coming year. And funny how it turns out that Florida's weather hasn't started out so great this year, with freezing temperatures for much of the month of January. Let's hope the rest of the year doesn't look like that!

Well, as far as winter weather predictions go, while meteorology is a science, it is also something of an art. So weather predictions aren't always as accurate as we'd hope. But let's just put that aside for the moment and take what we know already about this winter and what the professional meteorologist folks are predicting for the upcoming New Year and maybe we can just figure out what to expect.

Right now, there are some pretty good sources we can turn to for our Winter weather forecast for 2010. So let's take a look at what the Farmer's Almanac is predicting for this season in the United States and then I'll include some links to other weather sites that you may want to check out.

Farmers Almanac Winter Weather Predictions for 2010

According to the Farmer's Almanac, we'll see much more cold this winter for 2010. They say that average temperatures will be below normal for about 3/4ths of the national.

The worst of it will occur east of the Continental Divide to west of the Appalachian and the coldest temps will be in the Great Lakes region.

For those on the East and West Coasts however, you're lucky enough that temperatures will be much closer to normal during your the winter months of 2010.

Preparing for Snow, Ice and Rain

If you ive in the Central and Southern Plains, you better get your rain boots out, because you can expect above average precipation this winter! For the rest of the country, snow and rainfall should be just about normal, with maybe a bit more drier than usual conditions in the Southwest and Great Lakes area.

I guess that's good news for those around the Great Lakes, you'll just be COLD, and not quite so wet this year.

How about a blizzard or two? New England might want to get ready for a blizzard in February!

You can find out more about what the Old Farmer's Almanac has to say about long range weather predictions at their website.

Looking at these photos makes me really realize how much I don't miss Ohio winters and how glad I am that I live in the south for now.

It's June 1st, and the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season is officially underway. With two early season storms, Alberto and Beryl, having already come and gone, this year's season has gotten off to a near-record early start. Since reliable record keeping began in 1851, only the hurricane seasons of 1908 and 1887 had two named storms form so early in the year. So, will this early pace continue? What will this year's hurricane season bring? Here are my top five questions ... Read More - 19 hours ago
